Are You A Candidate For Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is considered to be one of the most effective methods used to reduce the amount of hair that you have and to permanently remove it. Unfortunately not everyone is a candidate for this process. There are certain requirements that you must meet before you can be considered for it.

It used to be that people with light skin and dark hair were the only candidates that were able to use this procedure. However, newer laser have been developed that will give dermatologists the ability to help people with any type of skin and hair type. Not every clinic has the right equipment though so it is important to know where you fall so that you will be given the best and most effective treatment possible.

The requirements are determined upon the Fitzpatrick Chart. This is classified according to the color and the quantity of melanin that is contained within it. These skin types are classified in the various types.

Type 1 - This is very pale skin that will burn easily and never tans.

Type 2 - This type of skin is considered to be sensitive to the sun, has a hard time tanning, and will burn easily.

Type 3 - Sensitive to the sun, burns on occasion, and tans slowly to a light brownish color.

Type 4 - This is not as sensitive to the sun, burns very rarely, and will tan to a decent medium brown color.

Type 5 – This is not sensitive to the sun at all, tans quite well, and burns very rarely.

Type 6 – Very insensitive to the sun, does not burn at all, and can be pigmented very easily.

Those with skin types 1 through 4 will have the best results possible from this procedure and who have black or brown hair. Those who have red, grey, or blonde hair and fall in the last two skin types will not have the best results and will need a great deal more sessions to achieve their desired look.

The harder it is for you to use this treatment the more you will want to use the more skilled lasers and technicians. In the long run it will save you a great deal of money.

Anyone who has diabetes, lupus, or any type of skin condition will not be allowed to use laser hair removal. Those who have herpes will have an outbreak caused by the treatment. It is important that you visit with your doctor before any session.
